Betula Pendula

Betula Pendula still is remembered more commonly as Silver Birch. Pendula is a medium-sized deciduous tree that could grow up to 30m. Once mature, they form a light and elegant canopy.

Humans have used Silver Birches since Celtic times c.1200/1000 B.C.E, where they were a prominent feature during initiation rituals.

They became a symbol of hope in European areas which succumbed to forest fires, as they were the first trees to sprout from the ashes they left.

In the U.K. wetter conditions in the mid-21st century decimated native Silver Birch populations due to their preference for dry soil.

Today, specimens are common in cultural institutions and research settings.
