Ardwick Climate Action started with its founding members, Choel and Gordon...

Sitting at a climate summit in Manchester as local residents, Choel piped up and said, "lets shut down the A6", in front of city officials and other members of the Manchester community. The response was little to nothing, with most in the room dismissing this as impossible. Gordon however took it seriously. They linked up and began to discuss exactly how you would close the A6. For those of you that do not know, the stretch of A6 this refers to is a key commuter and industry route in and out of the city centre, running from the famous Apollo, to Piccadilly in the city centre. A few meetings later and with some grit, they had Manchester City Council on board, to cause as much disruption as possible, in a way that had civil service on board. The event grew and the A6 closure happened on the 2nd October.

The Climate Action Group has just secured major funding following this to continue their important work in the community over the next year….
